LeAnn Westendorf, 57, of West Union, died Friday, August 22, 2014, at Palmer Memorial Hospital in West Union, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union with Rev. Galen Smith officiating. Burial will be at Windsor Township Cemetery, rural Hawkeye. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, August 25th at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Hawkeye and for one hour preceding services at the church on Tuesday. The family suggests that memorials be made in LeAnn’s name to the Gift Of Life Transplant House in Rochester, Minnesota or to the family for future designation.
LeAnn, daughter of Dale and Phyllis Pinney Ruroden, was born September 24, 1956, at West Union, Iowa, and was born again on February 13, 1998. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union and graduated from North High School in West Union in 1974. On August 21, 1976, she was united in marriage with Dave Westendorf at Bethel Presbyterian Church. LeAnn was employed by the Good Samaritan Home in Postville and later West Union for over thirty years. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Union where she participated in the afternoon circle. She was also a longtime member of the American Diabetes Association. She enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, feeding the birds and squirrels, her dogs, reading, camping, motorcycling, and traveling.
In addition to her husband, Dave of West Union, she is survived by her mother, Phyllis Ruroden of Fayette; three brothers, Terry (Deb) Ruroden of Waterloo, Randy (Mary) Ruroden of West Union, and Tim (Becky) Ruroden of Cresco; two sisters, Lana (Jim Szabo) Mantor of Cedar Rapids and Robin (Steve) Robinson of Hawkeye; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dale Ruroden, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Adaline and Gerald Westendorf.
